Of course, you will when you have a leaking tap or pipe or clogging drain to fix all by yourself.

Leaks and Drain clogs can anytime become floods or contagious to our health in overall, anytime. So sometimes you need to do the fixing job yourself especially when you find it not major. But how are you supposed to stop yourself from not falling prey to committing something major. Well, there are certain things you can avoid by being careful and by knowing the right way of doing a job.

Mistakes to avoid: Common Plumbing Mistakes that people unknowingly make

If you want to see your pipes, drainage system and house doing good then here is how you can: –

  • Over tightening: While plumbing, the most common mistake people make is to over tighten the pipes, bolts and fittings so as to prevent future water leaks. But what actually happens is that you put the supply tube or pipes or bolts etc. on the risk of cracking, and then weeks or months later you actually have a water leak and then water havoc in your place.
  • Not using level: When you are installing a new toilet or sink by yourself, it is best to use a level which insures that the installation has been properly done involving no cracks or crookedness. Because a problem while installation can take a negative turn in no time damaging your water system.
  • Installing toilets and sinks: When you are installing a new sink or a toilet in your bathroom by yourself, then you must create some space around. The toilet should not stick to the wall neither it should be too close to the sink. Keeping fixtures too close to each other then everybody using the bathroom will not be very much comfortable. A toilet must stay 15inches away from the side wall and 18inches from the front wall.
  • Instead of liquid drain cleaners use Drain cleaning tool like strainers: This is a common thing that every house owner does that is, they use liquid drain cleaners for saving their drains from clog. But they don’t really work the way you want them to. First and foremost, it is always recommended not to throw grease in the sink as well as oil or food particles as they stick to the pipe causing drain clog. But then using a Strainer or a simple drain cleaning tool is of big help than wasting money on buying liquid cleaners which often increase the problems. As using them too much damages the pipe and traps causing water leaks.
  • Not having enough spare parts: Even if you are a pro at everything and you have a habit of achieving great results, you shouldn’t begin your plumbing task before you have spare parts in your plumbing kit. Even you wouldn’t like the idea of running to a hardware store to find a part of a place that requires immediate repair. Buying a cartridge of faucet repair, rubber compression gaskets and O-rings will help you fix a leaky faucet or clogging drain lines.
  • The Hurrying up task: If you are running late for work or for a movie and your friends have been waiting for you then we suggest don’t do the plumbing job right now. If it requires your immediate attention, then what you can do is just turn off the water supply before you leave to avoid any havoc from happening. After you come back and have all the time, then try your hands in fixing and repairs.

Majority of people also use the wrong tools to fix or repair a certain part which can create more problems. Just because you think your screwdriver can do the job of a slip joint pliers then no you are wrong.
